The Latest Relaxed Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Recently, the game developers launched a fresh game mode called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but includes several key adjustments:

  • Each team has only eight real players, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities done by human gamers grant full XP, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.

So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it provides additional choices for players looking for alternative ways to enjoy the game. However, if video games have taught us anything, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 players are upset.

Community Responses: From Fury to Support

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," says a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this title," and someone else details everything they consider to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."

However, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this game 24/7. Let them find a middle ground," states a different comment. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," and another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Criticisms and Community Feedback

All that said, there are valid points to criticize the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it could increase wait times even longer for different playlists because of the sheer number of options currently available. Similarly, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to remove XP farming from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base compromising halfway, as per forum feedback. Another describes this mode as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?

If the development team has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and acting on feedback. Tasks being too difficult got fixed rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to change it again.
