Fashion legend Antony Price, the groundbreaking British fashion designer behind many legendary styles favored by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has sadly died at the age of 80.
He was celebrated for his sculptured silhouettes and theatrical styles, including the pastel suits that became famous from rock band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "their hit Rio".
"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message online."
Price's death comes less than a month after he presented his newest line in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Artist Lily Allen walked in a dress that paid homage to the famous black velvet "dress" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.
Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price moved to London at the start of the 1960s to attend the renowned Royal College of Art.
Upon completing his studies, he began designing clothing for men at the label Stirling Copper and was behind the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger sported during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.
He established his eponymous line in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show was launched by looks from supermodel Jerry Hall, who later wore the wedding dress Price designed for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.
A long-time collaborator of David Bowie, Price created the iconic jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His characteristic talent to merge menswear and womenswear along with his masterful technique in shaping form-fitting garments established him as a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.
During the nineties, he started creating outfits for Camilla, now Queen Consort, which included several ensembles for her US tour after becoming Duchess.
After a career spanning half a century, Price staged what would be his last show in London recently in collaboration with the fashion brand 16Arlington.
The fashion world says farewell to a genuine innovator whose influence on style and culture remains indelibly etched.
