The Division Makes Its Way to the Tabletop Gaming World as a Deeply Strategic TTRPG

The gritty world of Tom Clancy’s The Division is being adapted into a dice-based role-playing experience. A collaboration was established to develop a TTRPG that explores the series' apocalyptic setting. The project has been announced, with a crowdfunding campaign planned to begin in the spring of 2026.

"This project aims to deliver the franchise’s distinctive tension, strategic depth, and iconic world-building to the tabletop, offering fans a fresh avenue to engage with The Division through deep narrative and player-driven missions," states an official release.

Initial offerings will include a starter set, essential manuals, a GM screen, figurines, and several deluxe editions.

Delving Into The Division's Apocalyptic World

In this universe, a deadly virus known as Green Poison was released in New York City, sending the nation into chaos. As the crisis worsens, civil order breaks down and hostile groups emerge, transforming the urban landscape into a warzone. To preserve order, the authorities {activate|deploy] The Division, a secret cell of sleeper agents. That’s where the players enter the story.

Work on the RPG has been in progress for about three years, and it is reportedly complete. The forthcoming Kickstarter campaign will function as a pre-launch sales platform to reach a broader audience, specifically in the United States. Manufacturing is slated to begin right after the campaign, with shipping expected for the latter part of 2026.

A Streamlined Gameplay Mechanic: The GRIS System

A preview at the system confirms it employs d10s exclusively through its new GRIS system, encouraging a streamlined and strategic style. Agents leverage abilities to assemble small dice pools, usually between one and five d10s.

  • Rather than summing the total, players select a single “resolution die” from the pool.
  • This dice is then compared against a set challenge number.
  • Achieving a perfect 10 grants special effects, such as increased harm or boosted support.

Combat Focus On Tactical Placement and Awareness

Fights stress positioning and situational awareness, reflecting the video games. Elements like cover, elevation, or line of sight directly influence success chances. This mechanic is designed to reward coordination and smart positioning over raw numbers.

A Novel Wound System

The way injuries is tracked introduces a interesting narrative layer. Operatives have a injury limit; taking heavy hits weakens their capabilities by lowering the size of their dice pool.

  1. At zero health, an agent collapses, but they’re not unconscious.
  2. They may still move and perform restricted acts, emulating the "downed" state common to many shooter games.
  3. Any player knocked down must roll on a trauma table, potentially gaining persistent effects like shock or mobility-impairing wounds.

A Ready-to-Play Scenario

A free Quickstart Guide is promised soon. It contains a ready-to-play starting adventure titled Ashes of Murray Hill. In this mission, the group spearhead the hunt for a lost doctor squad and work to stop an attack by the notorious Rikers faction, who have seized control of that NYC neighborhood. More specifics and the full range of offerings are expected to be detailed closer to the campaign launch.
