Sovereign to Deliver First-Hand Address on Illness in TV Address

The Monarch has recorded a first-hand account concerning his battle with cancer, scheduled for transmission as part of this year's annual cancer awareness campaign, organised by a leading cancer charity and a television broadcaster.

Buckingham Palace confirmed the King would discuss his "path to recovery" as a person living with the disease, in a televised statement on Friday at the evening slot.

The address, recorded at his London residence two weeks ago, will highlight the vital significance of preventative health checks to increase the likelihood more people catch the condition at an early stage.

This constitutes a rare update on the wellbeing of the Monarch, who has been undergoing regular treatment since revealing his diagnosis in early last year. However, it is believed improbable the King will disclose his particular diagnosis.

The Campaign's Central Purpose

The Stand Up To Cancer initiative each year raises funds for clinical trials and therapies and urges people to get health assessments to increase the odds of an prompt identification.

The King's candid approach about his illness, and managing the disease, has been intended to increase understanding and to get more people to get checked - and this will be escalated with this exceptional personal contribution.

To date the King's primary strategy to his cancer has been to keep working, preserving a hectic timetable despite his frequent sessions of treatment, and he is understood not to have wanted to be characterised by his condition.

The past twelve months has seen the Sovereign, embarking on several overseas trips, including to Italy and Canada, and hosting the highest tally of foreign dignitaries to the UK for almost 40 years, including the German president recently.

Charity Evening Programme

This Friday's charity show on television, featuring presenters such as Davina McCall, Adam Hills and Clare Balding, will urge people not to be scared of getting preventative tests.

All three have been had experience with cancer - McCall disclosed last month she had received treatment for breast cancer, while Balding was diagnosed with the illness in the past. Host Hills has previously mentioned his late father, who had stomach cancer and then later blood cancer.

The show will appeal to the estimated nine million people in the UK who health organisations state are not compliant with NHS screening schemes, with an website to let people check if they are eligible for tests for several common cancers.

In an effort to clarify cancer checks and show the benefit of timely identification there will be a live broadcast from cancer clinics at medical facilities in Cambridge.

"The goal is to take the fear out of preventative tests and show all people that they are not alone in this," commented Davina McCall.

Available Screening Programmes

At present in the UK, there are a number of national health screening services - for specific cancers - available to certain age groups.

A emerging lung cancer screening programme is also being slowly rolled out for people at potential risk of developing the illness, focusing on people in a specific age bracket, who are smokers or were former smokers.

Individuals may enquire about specific tests, but there is no national programme currently available.

Funding Research

The fundraising project, which has raised over one hundred million pounds for many years, is financing multiple clinical trials with 13,000 patients.

His Majesty, in a address for guests at a reception for cancer charities in earlier this year, had discussed acknowledging the "intimidating and at times alarming experience" for those diagnosed and their families.

But he stated his first-hand encounter of living with cancer had shown him that "periods of great challenge of disease can be brightened by the kindness of others," as he commended those who looked after cancer patients.

Royal representatives has not made public what kind of cancer the King has, or what treatment he has received. The King's cancer was detected after he had received a medical treatment.
