President Trump stated on Sunday that he has asked the relatives of a National Guard member killed last week to attend the executive mansion.
He noted that he contacted her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.
Soldier Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a violent incident on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her colleague, Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in critical condition.
Gatherings across the state have been held in their honor.
The commander-in-chief stated he’s proposed a White House visit for the loved ones of both soldiers of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a tough thing, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” the president addressed reporters. “And in the same way with him, no matter the outcome.”
Mourners came together over the weekend at the high school in West Virginia to pay respects to Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been fulfilling duties with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s national effort to support public safety in DC.
“Sarah was the kind of student that instructors hoped for. She conducted herself with calm resilience, a warm expression and a positive energy that encouraged people around her,” Hankins, the leader of her former high school, informed the Associated Press. “She was caring, caring and always ready to assist people.”
Funeral arrangements for Sarah are yet to be finalized.
Officials have charged a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of first-degree murder and charges of attempted murder while armed.
The incident led the government to suspend refugee claims and temporarily stop granting visas to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.
Wolfe, a native of the city, started his military career in February 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, per the AP.
He continues to receive treatment and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s governor Patrick Morrisey said on television.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general informed a news show that she aimed to visit the family.
Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County High in 2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a MP with honor, as stated by the military.
“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had bravery,” he told the gathering at the vigil. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
