Madeleine McCann Brother and Sister Detail Alleged Harasser's Behavior as Deeply Disturbing and Creepy

Maddie McCann twin siblings, Sean and Amelie, have told the court that their encounters with an alleged stalker were deeply disturbing and creepy. The siblings explained feeling stressed and frightened by a woman who insisted she was their missing sister.

Persistent Communication Described as Frightening

Testifying remotely, she stated how the defendant, the 24-year-old, reached out to her repeatedly through online platforms and letters. Amelie explained the relentlessness was quite frightening because you don’t know what she’ll do next.

Communications from the defendant were read in the trial, in which she recounted memories of living in the McCann household that she claimed were recalled during hypnotherapy. Amelie testified, It’s quite upsetting that she's inventing these alleged memories, despite the fact she isn't Maddie.

Fabricated Images Heightened Distress

The court learned that the accused had produced pictures of Amelie and herself as young girls, which the state said were generated with ChatGPT. Some of these images were sent through online channels, while others were printed and included in a letter to Amelie.

She said, It was unpleasant, it caused me to feel very uneasy. She had clearly altered the images to make me look more like her, which was very disturbing. I knew I didn't resemble that, I understood it had been manipulated.

Emotional Toll on the Family

She also spoke about the effect of the alleged stalking on her parent, their mother, who gave evidence about being confronted at her residence by Wandelt and her co-defendant, a 61-year-old woman.

In my opinion my mum experienced it as the most difficult. She was targeted by the defendant to a greater extent than the rest of us and I believe it certainly had a negative effect on her and her wellbeing, she testified. It's distressing when someone’s pleading with you to believe them and manipulating your feelings, to the point you are doubting your own judgment.

Sibling's Testimony on Stress and Digital Scrutiny

In a witness statement presented to the trial, Sean McCann stated that for him, he had not been severely affected by the defendant's alleged harassment. However he had been upset that she was drawing online attention, with people saying hurtful and unjust things about his parents.

If Wandelt was not mentally ill and was fully aware she is not Madeleine, yet continues to assert she is, that will be very distressing for me, he said. I am convinced she is my sibling. The reality that the defendant is doing this has resulted in a great deal of stress and I find it profoundly disturbing.

Wandelt and Spragg have pleaded not guilty to stalking the McCann household. The trial are ongoing.
