Arne Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat

Arne Slot acknowledged that it was understandable for doubts to be asked about his future after a further heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.

The Reds endured their ninth loss in 12 matches, marking the club's poorest streak after being demoted in 1953-54.

They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing night at their home ground.

“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received plenty of backing from management,” the coach commented.

“It's important to turn it around and secure a win obviously but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it's expected that people question you.”

He noted, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”

Talks with Club Management

When asked to elaborate on his dialogues with the team officials, the head coach explained:

“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”

He mentioned, “During our regular conversations we have I feel the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so it remains to be seen.”

Recurring Problems and Squad Response

The manager lamented familiar shortcomings from his squad in their European loss, namely missed opportunities and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the current crisis.

“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones stated.

“It's simply not good enough. I don't have to wait to think about it. I’m past feeling anger internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”

He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”

“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a period like this with performances this poor.”

Jones stated, “However we still have that badge on our chest. And as long as it is removed, we will always compete.”

“We’re going to try to get this team back to its rightful place, show everyone again what this club is about and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”

“At this moment, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
